First They Came
By Pastor Martin Niemoller
First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left to speak out for me.
In 1941, Niemoller was transferred to Dachau concentration camp, where he would spend most of the rest of the war. Finally, in 1945 he was transferred to another camp in Austria, where he was liberated by American troops in April 1945.
Perhaps in another hundred years, someone will write a poem that begins:
First they came for Greenland…
Or First they came for Canada…
Or First they came for the Panama Canal, or the Gulf of Mexico, or some other place.
Trump is saying that the U.S. will hold migrants in Guantanamo Bay, a prison designed for terrorists.
Don’t believe that just because something is absolutely too horrible to imagine that it can’t happen. It has already started.
Maps are already being changed to the Gulf of America.

Peace & Love, and all of the above,
Earl
