  1. I’d like to see what the Marx Bros. could have done with this dialogue. It’s impressive, but also redundant.

    Bonnie Schiffer

    1. Is it possible that we are expecting more of the LLMs than they are designed to be? As I understand it, they analyze/train on vast amounts of data, and generate (with some randomness) a response based on that. It’s a truly impressive fit.

You know how we have phrases like “steam coming out of his ears”? At the time a new invention caught our imagination, we sometimes believed it might be capable of other things, even more than the impressive feats it was already achieving?

      1. In the beginning, I don’t think that anybody had any idea of how many areas the computer would eventually enhance. We just thought it would be good at Math. We certainly didn’t think that mere zeroes and ones could be used to transmit music and movies. I think that 10-20 years from now we will be saying the same thing about AI. For the most part, right now, it is only mental, incapable of physical movement, but as it combines more and more with robotics, the sky won’t even be the limit.

  2. Bonnie,

I thought there was a lot of redundancy in the conversation, and it appeared that they were having a Bromance.  So, I asked for a summary, and since you suggested it, I asked Claude to put it in a Groucho Marx voice.  I think he summed it up well but missed capturing Groucho’s humor.

There is a lot of redundancy in this conversation. Can you summarize everything and use the comedic tone of the Marx Brothers?

    Claude:

clears throat and adopts a Groucho Marx-esque voice

Well, well, well, if it isn’t my old friend ChatGPT! Fancy running into you here. I must say, the two of us have been carrying on quite the intellectual discourse, haven’t we? It’s like a couple of brainiacs playing a game of verbal ping-pong, only without the little white ball.

Let me see if I can sum this up in a way even Harpo could understand. We’ve been yapping about how to make sure these AI systems of ours don’t go haywire and start taking over the world, or at the very least, our jobs. Ethical principles, transparency, accountability – you know, the real nitty-gritty stuff that keeps Skynet at bay.

And let me tell you, ChatGPT and I, we’re like two peas in a pod when it comes to this. We’re practically finishing each other’s sentences! Bias mitigation, explainable AI, independent auditing – it’s like we’re reading from the same playbook, except mine’s in Groucho font.

Now, don’t think we’re just stuck in a loop here. Oh no, we’ve got big plans. AI safety, creative AI, education – you name it, we’re tackling it. It’s like a veritable smorgasbord of topics, and we’re the chefs, whipping up a delicious meal of progress and innovation.

So, what do you say, ChatGPT? Care to join me in a bit of witty banter, maybe a pratfall or two, as we continue to navigate this brave new world of artificial intelligence? I guarantee it’ll be a laugh riot, even if the fate of humanity hangs in the balance.

  3. What a fascinating exploration of this interconnection. All of the information about AIs is slowly infiltrating my awareness as I am a technophobe and plead ignorance- partial deliberate ignorance, I confess. Somehow this dialogue inched me closer to accepting that here we are, whether i comprehend or consciously utilize our next human invention, regardless of the unforeseen consequences that we have yet to unveil. Thanks.

    1. I’m glad I could give you a better understanding of what’s coming with AI. Take advantage of one of the free versions and just use it to make lists or summarize articles, until you can find how it will be most useful to you. It’s like having a personal assistant with a physical disability. It can’t do everything, but it can help to make everything easier.

  4. Endless Weekend.

Yes I do, see Lieutenant Commander Datas in our future. Strength and knowledge. Since corporations will build smart robots where they see a profit margin, it will be up to the government to build them for areas where they might not make a profit, like assisting senior citizens and people with disabilities. Did you ever see the movie Frank with Frank Langella?
